TVA hammer falls again crushing houseboats
February 27, 2016
Does it matter what the input is from the houseboat owners and other vested interests? Fake “environmental damage” will occur not because of what users have done for decades on the TVA lakes but because of sliding ineptitude, mismanagement, confusion between what is sovereign property and federal government mandates (requirements.)
I ask TVA to look at the debris and sediment which is filling the lakes up and making the power dams useless, is that “environmental damage”? Yes, in the long run. What the driving force behind TVA’s actions is the pure ideology of the admin. It really does not matter how it affects the lives of hundreds if not thousands and their entrepreneurial efforts of those who have been misled by TVA because of gross negligence that today, still, has not been held accountable for the billions of dollars of waste.
So in the name of “environmental damage” (while not ever explaining what “environmental damage” may or may not happen,) I cannot help but recall the actions of Big Brother in Orwell’s ‘1984.’ “Environmental damage” is as vague as anything in that book. But control is the name, and TVA has it.
“Follow the money” for the pot of gold that is TVA. On principle alone, TVA should be abolished, principle says the TVA Act of 1933 should never have been enacted; it has never been “settled.” On principle alone, Eisenhower was right, as were many others but the pull of money was too strong. Later rulings by the Supreme Court ruling were on the narrow point of a contract and they never touched TVA’s constitutionality.
Today, TVA is operating on borrowings (TVA recently received nearly one billion dollars from a bond sale) and the reduced income from electricity sales. The previous TVA model, no longer valid, leaves TVA deeper and deeper in debt WITHOUT A REQUEST FOR CONGRESSIONAL APPROPRIATIONS!
Essentially, TVA is a shaky house of cards; when it crashes, no one will be held accountable, not a single person for the waste and abuse TVA has rendered.
