TVA itself epitome of Kingston disaster
July 17, 2009
As the case against the TVA builds to an unsustainable height, it inevitably will come crashing down like the Kingston disaster. As in the Kingston ash-dam failure, there is no way the TVA can be repaired to “as it was before”.
No one ever again will believe what the TVA says. They have covered up their cover ups; they have lied to TVA retirees and to the people from whom they extort taxes (for electricity). TVA has been so dishonest that a criminal investigation is warranted.
With an enabling TVA Office of Inspector General, TVA gets only wrist-slappings when criminal issues should have been turned over for prosecution by a federal attorney. Several states should have taken action similar to the attorney general of North Carolina. And now TVA is trying to weasel out of installing pollution controls on a schedule mandated by a federal judge.
TVA sets a very poor example of a federal government agency and it reflects on all other federal and state agencies.
As to TVA’s board, all political appointees, it immediately should be disbanded and the day-to-day operation of TVA’s electricity production should be assumed by knowledgeable utility operators, a consortium of them. This working group also should begin implementing a dissolution plan of the TVA. (See http://norsworthyopinion.com for a number of suggestions in this regard).
In my research of the TVA for the past several years, I have uncovered case after case of instances of incompetent management by the CEO and the board of directors.
As one complainant put it, it’s “the TVA culture” that is ingrained in all of TVA’s operations which puts everyone at risk including surrounding communities near TVA plants.
For a litany of reasons TVA should be liquidated, see a "declaration" styled after the original Declaration of Independence at http://norsworthyopinion.com/hearyehearyetimefortvadissolution.aspx
