TVA ratepayers subsidize other utilities
November 18, 2009
Do you need more than the two following reasons why the Tennessee Valley Authority should be privatized or at least run by state and local governments?
“New York state has secured $3 million in federal funding to help protect state and local government computer networks against cyber attacks.” http://www.legislativegazette.com/Articles-c-2009-11-16-63976.113122_NY_gets_3M_to_help_stop_cyber_attacks.html
Federal stimulus funding for help in deployment of the “smart grid” system available to other electricity utilities is not available to TVA in their 17,000-mile electrical distribution grid.
TVA already has been chastised for the vulnerabilities in their security systems and much work is yet to be done - at ratepayers’ expense. The net result of these two issues is that ratepayers (TVA taxpayers) are in effect subsidizing the Southern Company, Duke and other adjacent utilities, an ironic turn of events.
Added are the billions more for the Kingston disaster and the federal court decision for TVA to cut air pollution in four plants nearest North Carolina, all on ratepayers’ shoulders.
