Changes in the wind for top TVA management?
July 21, 2009
It wouldn’t be the first time a communications director took over the helm of a business. And the hiring of an ex-federal bureaucrat in a move designed to strengthen the public utility’s communication and public relations points clearly in only one direction – a completely federal operation headed by a seasoned bureaucrat.
The nuts and bolts of TVA’s electricity production can be left to production managers; there are quite a few of them.
TVA, pretending that it is a communications problem that has caused much of its recent grief, is prepping for something else. If Congress gets mad enough, they will make demands of the TVA that cannot be done within the current culture of bonuses above safety (running equipment to the bone before proper maintenance) and letting the devil take the hindmost in consideration of communities around TVA plants (Kingston, Widows Creek).
Any rate paying user of TVA electricity will tell you that the last thing TVA should be concerned about is its image which in the minds of most is irreparable. The last thing TVA needs is yet another layer of TVA bureaucrats. Very expensive bureaucrats. Reportedly, Mr. Mould will receive $275,000 a year and certainly other perks.
And this is a rush job – he starts work tomorrow.
